Since graduating from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (now simply Manchester University) with a degree in mechanical engineering, Philip has pursued a very varied career, working in a number of market sectors in both large and small companies. Having worked in retail management, financial services, product design and development and project management, Philip decided in 2011 to take on a new challenge by launching his own company, applying his experience and expertise to a new market area. His company is now well established, servicing numerous businesses in and around Swindon.

Philip became a governor at Shaw Ridge Primary School in 2000 as his eldest child entered the school and after a brief spell as vice chair, became Chair of Governors in 2003. In his time as chair, Philip has helped to guide the school through four "good" Ofsted inspections, a merger with an under performing school, the construction of and transfer into a new school building, conversion to academy status and the formation of the LACT. In 2015 he began a two year term as LACT chair and was reappointed for a further two years in 2017. In 2017 Philip also became a Member of The Park Academies Trust.

With running his own business and his governor commitments, Philip does not have a lot of time for hobbies, but he does enjoy gardening, reading, music and spending time with his family.
